L.A. OVER EASY

NEVER EATING LUNCH AGAIN IN THIS TOWN IS NOT A PROBLEM

CHRISTINE LENNON BREAKFASTS WITH CHAMPIONS

People who say Los Angeles doesn't have a sense of history or community must eat breakfast at home. If there's one time of day to see the city in its present (and former) glory, it's the morning. Before the smog settles into its low-hanging haze or crosstown traffic tangles like cheap hair extensions, dozens of great old joints start cracking eggs and flipping flapjacks for lifetime regulars. When a city is early to bed and early to rise, as L.A. is, breakfast is a high point.

Magda Berliner, fashion designer

I've been going to the Kings Road Cafe for about 14 years now. I always order an oat scone and Earl Grey tea while I read the paper. Many of the other regulars at Kings are screenwriters who office there. In fact, I worked as the costume designer on of the the films of a fellow regular.
